Se muitos artistas buscam construir personagens à perfeição, outros encontram no acidente seu fluxo criativo natural. É essa trajetória invertida que rege o trabalho do paulista Flavio Rossi.
No início, o universo de Rossi, que começou a carreira como ilustrador, era habitado por personagens com diferentes proporções, cheios de dramaticidade e que protagonizavam quase que exclusivamente as telas. Agora, no entanto, suas reconhecíveis figuras aparecem mergulhadas em outros muitos elementos, que compõem suas pinturas e esculturas.
As sobreposições de imagens tomam formas quase abstratas, um nítido retrato de nossas mentes nos tempos atuais. Nesse processo, Rossi também coloca nos trabalhos a materialidade da tinta, buscando volumes nas pinceladas. A construção de cada obra fica mais aparente e orgânica, trazendo a massa de pigmento para o papel de protagonista. Os personagens parecem camuflados, sendo descobertos aos poucos pelo expectador.
Para tais produções, ele reuniu inúmeras imagens capturadas na Internet e fez colagens virtuais. A partir delas, começou a pintar. Em meio à obra, reconhecemos algumas referências da trajetória de Rossi, como o amor pelo jazz.

If many artists seek to build characters to perfection, others find in the accident their natural creative flow. It is this inverted trajectory that governs the work of Flavio Rossi of São Paulo.
In the beginning, the universe of Rossi, who began his career as an illustrator, was inhabited by characters of different proportions, full of drama and starring almost exclusively the canvas. Now, however, his recognizable figures appear immersed in many other elements, composing his paintings and sculptures.
Image overlays take almost abstract forms, a clear picture of our minds in modern times. In this process, Rossi also puts in the work the materiality of paint, looking for volumes in the brushstrokes. The construction of each work becomes more apparent and organic, bringing the pigment paste to the starring role. The characters seem camouflaged, being gradually discovered by the viewer.
For such productions, he gathered numerous images captured on the Internet and made virtual collages. From them, he began painting. Amid the work, we recognize some references for the trajectory of Rossi, as the love of jazz.

Nunca deixei de relacionar a música com a pintura. Talvez por conviver com meu pai que era músico. Ambas se encontram de em varias vertentes; ritmo, harmonia, cor, composição, camadas, vigor, volume, etc… Dentre todos os gêneros da música o que mais conversa com meu trabalho hoje penso que é o Jazz. Assim como o Jazz a minha pintura segue se pelo improviso , a partir das pequenas descobertas e possibilidades durante o processo de construção. Quase como se o acidente ditasse as regras.
Busco ritmo, harmonia, movimento… Uma forma de possuir a outra num sentido de união.
Como disse Duke Ellington: “Cada homem reza em seu próprio idioma”.

I never ceased to relate music with painting. Maybe it’s because I lived with my father who was a musician. Both meet in several areas; rhythm, harmony, colour, composition, layers, vigour, volume, etc… Among all genres of music the one that more talks to my work today, I think it’s Jazz. As Jazz, my painting follows the improvisation, from small discoveries and possibilities during the construction process. Almost as if the accident dictated the rules.
I’m looking for rhythm, harmony, movement … One way of owning the other in a sense of union.
As Duke Ellington said: “Each man prays in his own language”.
